YOUNGO Releases 2025 Global Youth Statement Calling for Urgent and Equitable Climate Action
The official youth constituency of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), YOUNGO, has unveiled the 2025 Global Youth Statement: A Declaration for Climate Justice, a powerful and unified call to action from young people around the world demanding urgent, just, and inclusive climate solutions.
This year’s Global Youth Statement reflects the collective input of over 30,000 children and youth who volunteered their voices and ideas through consultations, dialogues, and advocacy efforts across continents. The document consolidates their shared vision and demands into clear, thematic recommendations that address pressing climate issues from adaptation and mitigation to loss and damage, climate finance, education, and intergenerational equity.
According to YOUNGO, the 2025 edition of the statement represents a “powerful document reflecting the collective voices of young people from all over the world advocating for urgent and equitable climate action.” It is meant to serve as a key advocacy tool ahead of COP30 and other global climate negotiations, amplifying the priorities and perspectives of youth movements worldwide.
The statement underscores the need for governments, development partners, and international institutions to prioritize youth inclusion in climate policymaking, strengthen climate education, and invest in sustainable transitions that protect the most vulnerable.
For young climate activists in Ghana and across Africa, this is a crucial opportunity to align advocacy work and campaigns with a globally recognized youth-driven agenda. By engaging with the statement, activists can better understand the global demands and contribute to advancing climate justice within their communities.
