Youth Voices Take Center Stage as COP30 Opens in Belém, Brazil

Day 1 of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) opened with a powerful show of youth leadership and activism. From negotiation halls to side events, young delegates from around the world filled the venue with the same energy, innovation, and solidarity that defined the 20th Conference of Youth (COY20Brazil), continuing their collective mission for climate action and justice.

Building on the momentum of COY20Brazil, youth participants at COP30 are making their presence felt across pavilions and plenaries. They are not only advocating for urgent climate action but are also co-creating pathways toward climate justice, transparency, and accountability, working side by side with global decision-makers to ensure that youth priorities shape the outcomes of this year’s negotiations.

“Young people are no longer waiting to be invited into the conversation; they are leading it,” said a youth delegate. “At COP30, we’re demonstrating that solutions led by youth are essential to achieving a just and sustainable future for all.”

The active involvement of youth delegates underscores a growing global recognition that meaningful climate action requires the perspectives, creativity, and resilience of young people.

As the conference unfolds in Belém, their participation continues to inspire hope and drive a shared vision for equitable climate solutions.
