Mission
Africa’s youth contributing more effectively to addressing the global climate emergency

The climate action focus of the Africa Youth Partnership seeks to support young people in Africa to contribute more effectively to addressing the global climate emergency. Our theory of change is simple: if the continent’s youth could acquire the capacities and skills they need to build a stronger movement, they would be better placed to improve, expand and consolidate their efforts in holding duty bearers to account and in influencing the global agenda to address the climate emergency.
The Partnership is designed with an overall focus on youth across sub-Saharan Africa, and specific focus on six deep-dive countries in western Africa – Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
Specifically, we are to:
- Expand learning opportunities for the youth movement, enabling youth-led organisations and activists in Africa to enhance their knowledge and skills in climate advocacy and engagement;
- Improve collaboration among youth-led organisations and between them and other stakeholders in Africa, enabling the youth movement to better connect, collaborate and self-organise for action on climate action;
- Support African governments to become more responsive to youth inclusion in the mechanisms and structures for national and international engagements for addressing climate change; and
- Amplify youth voices in policy spaces, as Africa’s youth take up opportunities to participate in climate negotiations and engage key stakeholders and platforms at national, regional and global levels.
