Strategy

The strategy for the Africa Youth Partnership’s focus on climate action is intentionally designed to evolve according to the evolving global climate agenda. We are continuously reviewing our work to ensure that we are able to provide the most useful support that the youth movement needs in order to influence climate agenda at all levels.

That said, the following anchor activities are underlying our climate action strategy:

Strategy 1

Create flagship knowledge resources to support the work of the youth movement. We are creating a guide for meaningful youth participation in international negotiations with the aim to enhance the quality of youth engagement. We are also creating a toolkit for setting up a youth delegate programme that would help African governments enhance youth inclusion in national delegations to climate change and other global negotiations.

Strategy 2

Transform this Africa Youth Partnership website into an online resource hub comprising a compendium of easily accessible resources for the youth movement. Over time, these resources should include official climate change negotiation documents, primers, policy briefs, research reports, toolkits, documentaries, news stories, opportunities, etc. Ultimately, online resource hub would also feature a directory of youth-led organisations and youth activists in the climate advocacy space, to provide the basis for more concerted and coordinated effort across the movement.

Strategy 3

Deliver a series of learning sessions for youth-led organisations and activists as part of the Partnership’s focus on climate advocacy. Using a mix of resources, including those developed through this Partnership, we are delivering virtual and in-country learning sessions that meet the learning needs of the youth movement with topics like navigating international negotiations, effective participation in national delegations, building multi-stakeholder partnerships, fundraising, etc.

Strategy 4

Support youth representation in regional and global climate engagements. We are supporting governments in the deep-dive countries to create youth delegate programmes along with funding for youth delegates to participate in the Conference of Parties (COP) and associated activities, and other major negotiations and convenings.
